About Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute Of Medical Sciences Raibareli Road Lucknow Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

Growth and Specialized Services

Over time, SGPGIMS expanded its clinical offerings to meet patient needs, launching key departments such as Critical Care Medicine, Hematology, Pediatric Gastroenterology, and Pediatric Surgical subspecialty. Furthermore, through the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Sewa Yojna, departments like Plastic Surgery, Maternal & Reproductive Health, Pulmonary Medicine, Molecular Medicine & Biotechnology, Opthalmology, and Neonatology were developed, significantly broadening the scope of services.

💻 Pioneering Initiatives

The institute demonstrated a commitment to innovation by introducing a Telemedicine program in 1999 for telesurgical education using interactive video conferencing. This pioneering work led to the establishment of the School of Telemedicine & Biomedical Informatics in 2006, a unique center in India.

In a landmark financial model, the Hospital Revolving Fund was introduced in 1997 to ensure a reliable and economically viable supply of drugs and consumables to admitted patients. This self-sustaining system, which provides discounted medicines procured through competitive bidding and delivered directly to the bedside, has been hailed as a success and adopted by numerous other hospitals across India. A similar Investigation Revolving Fund for diagnostic essentials followed in 2002.

🎓 Education and Recognition

SGPGIMS is also a vital educational hub. The College of Nursing began operations in 2008 with the B.Sc. Nursing Course, later adding the M.Sc. Nursing program in 2019. The institute has successfully trained over 1,000 medical graduates and postgraduates now serving in India and internationally. SGPGIMS has been consistently recognized for its high standards, having been rated among the top 10 Medical Institutions in the country by The Week magazine.

Further underscoring its national importance, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare designated SGPGIMS as the nodal center for the National Organ Procurement and Transplant Network program. It is also a program study center for dialysis training under the National Transplant Program, in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Open University.

🌟 Sustaining Excellence

Despite the constant pressure of a high patient influx, excellence remains the core principle at SGPGIMS. The institute consistently strives to improve its community services. Moving forward, continued innovation and hard work will be crucial for SGPGIMS to maintain its distinguished position among India's elite medical institutions.
