Agragati, a non-profit society registered in 1979 (Registration No: S/26356), has dedicated decades to rural upliftment, focusing on community awareness, income generation, women's empowerment, and educational initiatives across the Amta-I, Amta-II, and Udaynarayanpur blocks of Howrah district.
The organization's commitment to education is marked by the establishment of several institutions:
New Dawn KG Primary School (1988)
Agragati Primary Teacher Training Institute (APTTI) (2004)
Ramkrishna Mandal Institute of Education (B.Ed and D.El.Ed) (2014)
Agragati Yoga Naturopathy Institute (2017)
In June 2021, recognizing the critical demand for healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, Agragati's Governing Body decided to establish a Nursing College at Rashpur. The committee promptly approved the launch of B.Sc and GNM nursing programs starting with the 2022-23 academic session. The new institution was officially named the 'Agragati Institute of Health Sciences Nursing Education Unit' (AIHS-NEU).
The foundation stone for AIHS-NEU was ceremonially laid on August 14, 2021, in Rashpur, Amta, Howrah, by several distinguished public figures and the renowned singer Shri Nachiketa Chakraborty.
AIHS-NEU boasts an academic building spanning approximately 3,592 sq.m and a separate hostel complex, both featuring modern amenities and constructed in strict accordance with Indian Nursing Council (INC) guidelines. Since the 2022-23 session, the institute proudly offers both the GNM and B.Sc (Nursing) programs, each accommodating 60 seats and fully complying with all INC regulations.
In line with INC requirements, the institute has established essential partnerships for clinical practice:
Primary Clinical Facility: Mahabir Nursing Home, a 100-bed multi-specialty hospital only 4 km away, offering comprehensive services including radiological and pathological tests.
Additional Training Sites: Amta Rural Hospital, Hazi S.T. Mullick Rural Hospital, Chandapur Manikpur Rural Hospital (for general practice), Institute of Psychiatry, COE, Kolkata (for Mental Health), and B.B. Dhar/Bagnan Rural Hospitals (for community health).
AIHS-NEU is dedicated to offering guaranteed placement assistance to every graduate. The Principal, Prof. Pamela Gopalakrishnan, provides special guidance for students pursuing international nursing careers, and free spoken English classes are offered to boost communication skills. The on-campus hostel provides necessary facilities and security, ensuring a focused and supportive learning environment maintained by dedicated staff and management.
Prospective students considering a nursing career are encouraged to visit the campus and explore the excellent educational opportunities available.
