All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Vijaypur, located in Samba district, Jammu & Kashmir, is a newly established centre of medical education, research, and healthcare of national importance under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). The foundation stone was laid in 2019, with operations beginning in the 2020‑21 academic session, and the permanent campus inaugurated in early 2024. The institute is recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and offers an MBBS course (initially with about 50‑62 seats, increasing over time) with admission through NEET‑UG. The campus is spread over ~227 acres and includes a large multi‑specialty hospital (planned 750 beds with ICU, super‑specialty units etc.), with modern infrastructure such as smart lecture halls, well‑equipped labs, a digital library, hostels, simulation labs, and other student amenities. Despite being fairly new, AIIMS Jammu is already making strides in ranking among government medical universities and is seen as a key institution for improving healthcare access and medical education standards in the Jammu & Kashmir region.
