About Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College New Delhi, Delhi

Ayurvedic & Unani Tibbia College and Hospital (often called Tibbia College), located in Karol Bagh, New Delhi, is one of India’s oldest and most distinguished institutes for indigenous medical systems.
Founded originally as Madrasa‑e‑Tibbia by Hakim Abdul Majeed Khan in 1883 (functioning from 1889) in Chandni Chowk, it was later re‑established on a larger campus at Karol Bagh by Hakim Ajmal Khan. The foundation stone of its present site (about 33‑33.5 acres) was laid by Lord Hardinge in 1916, and Mahatma Gandhi inaugurated the Tibbia College buildings in 1921.
What makes Tibbia College special is that it houses both streams—Ayurveda (BAMS) and Unani (BUMS)—under one roof, both for undergraduate and postgraduate training. It has a hospital attached (around 300 beds) for practical training in various departments.
Its governance has changed over time: from the original trust by Hakim Ajmal Khan, then under the Tibbia College Act, 1952, and now it is owned/managed by the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi under the Delhi Tibbia College (Take Over) Act, 1998. It is affiliated with the University of Delhi since 1973.
