In 2003, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (DPU), Pimrpi, Pune, was established as a "Deemed-to-be-University" under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. It started with one constituent unit i.e. Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pune. Over the years, since its inception, the Vidyapeeth has grown exponentially and many more constituent Institutions have come into existence under its umbrella. The Government of India, MHRD, on the advice of UGC, vide its notification dated 11th January 2003 declared Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune as a Deemed-to-be University comprising of Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune.
