Government Ayurveda College, Tripunithura is a prominent public Ayurveda institution in Kerala with a rich history and strong reputation. Established originally in 1929, it is the second‐oldest Ayurveda college in the government sector in Kerala and the only one of its kind in Central Kerala.
The college is located on the Dhanwanthari Nagar campus, on Tripunithura–Vaikom Road in Ernakulam district. The campus comprises the academic blocks, hospital, pharmacy, hostels (male and female), a herbal garden, labs, staff quarters, and a large playground.
It offers undergraduate (BAMS) and postgraduate courses in various Ayurveda specialties, along with certificate and diploma programmes. The student intake for BAMS is currently 63. Postgraduate courses span several disciplines: MD, MS in areas like Kayachikitsa, Swasthavritta, Panchakarma, Rasasastra, Salakyatantra, and Prasooti‑Tantra among others.
The associated hospital serves not only as a clinical training centre for students but also as a healthcare provider for Ernakulam and neighbouring districts. Over the years its facilities have expanded, and it handles a range of clinical specialities and services, including Panchakarma.
Academically, it has many departments covering both the foundational subjects (like anatomy, physiology / “Rachana‑sareera”, “Kriya‑sareera”, Dravyaguna, Rasasastra etc.) and clinical specialties (such as surgery (“Salyatantra”), gynecology, pediatrics, ENT / Ophthalmology (“Salakyatantra”), etc.). The college also maintains a rich library (with over 11,000 books), rare manuscripts, and well‑equipped laboratories
