About Government Ayurvedic College,Jalukbari Guwahati, Assam

Government Ayurvedic College & Hospital, Jalukbari (Guwahati), Assam is one of the oldest and most prestigious Ayurvedic institutions in Northeast India. Founded on 20 December 1948, it was established shortly after Indian independence, motivated by the vision of local leaders like Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi and Bhuvaneswar Baruah.
Originally, classes began in a rented building in Uzan Bazar and later moved to Chandmari before finally settling in its current, permanent campus at Jalukbari in July 1959. 
The college is affiliated with Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (since 2010), and it follows the curriculum set by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) for Ayurvedic education. 
It offers the B.A.M.S. (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery) degree (duration 5½ years including internship), supported by multiple postgraduate departments. Courses include Kayachikitsa, Shalya Tantra (surgery), Shalakya (ENT & Ophthalmology), Prasuti‑Prasuti Tantra & Stri Roga (Obstetrics & Gynecology), Pediatric Ayurveda (Kaumarabhritya), Dravyaguna (Ayurvedic pharmacology), Panchakarma, and others. 
The college has a hospital attached, furnishing outpatient (OPD) and inpatient (IPD) Ayurvedic services. The IPD currently has about 150 beds, and there is a newer hospital building sanctioned for 300 beds to expand facilities and patient care. 
Infrastructure includes a central library (two floors), a herbal garden for study and practical learning, various departmental laboratories, an Ayurvedic pharmacy / manufacturing unit, Panchakarma unit, lecture halls, and hostel facilities.
