About Government Ayurvedic Medical College,Jammu Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir
Government Ayurvedic Medical College, Akhnoor (GAMC), Jammu and Kashmir, is a state government institution affiliated with the University of Jammu and under the regulation of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM). It was re‑established in recent years after its earlier existence; while originally founded in 1962, the college had to close in the mid‑1970s due to not meeting regulatory minimum standards, and was revived in 2017, with the first new batch of BAMS undergraduate students admitted then.
The college offers a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) program, admitting 63 students per year as of 2020–21 (including seats under the EWS category). Admission is through the NEET examination, with selection via Jammu & Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) and relevant counseling authorities.
The campus includes a 60‑bed teaching hospital to provide clinical training and Ayurvedic health services to the public. It is located at Indira Chowk, Jammu (Near MLA Hostel) and also has a site in the Sangani area, Akhnoor.
