Government Medical College, Kathua is a public medical institution established in 2019 by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.It was part of a plan initiated in 2017 to create several new medical colleges in the state to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and increase the availability of medical education. The college is located in the scenic village of Chak Sajjan, about 4 km from Kathua town, providing access to both urban amenities and rural surroundings.
GMC Kathua offers an MBBS program with an annual intake capacity of 100 students. It is affiliated with the University of Jammu, and recognized by the National Medical Commission. The associated hospital started out with about 300 beds, with plans to upgrade to 500 beds to comply with regulatory norms and to better serve the clinical exposure requirements of students.
Over time, the college has also started postgraduateālevel accreditation: for example, it has been granted DNB (Diplomate of National Board) seats in departments such as Pharmacology, Pediatrics, Community Medicine, and Physiology. The college aims to provide modern infrastructure, laboratories, lecture halls, hostel facilities, and the full clinical exposure required for medical training
