Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (MIT), located in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, is one of the oldest and most prestigious government engineering colleges in the state. Established in 1954, the institute was founded as the College of Civil Engineering and later renamed to reflect its expansion into multiple engineering disciplines. The foundation stone of its main building was laid by India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, in 1956. MIT Muzaffarpur is fully funded and managed by the Government of Bihar under the Department of Science and Technology and is affiliated with Bihar Engineering University, Patna. The institute offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various branches of engineering, technology, and pharmacy, including Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Computer Science, Information Technology, Chemical Engineering, and Leather Technology.
The sprawling campus, spread over approximately 55–85 acres, is located about 4 km from Muzaffarpur railway station along the Muzaffarpur–Motihari road. Surrounded by greenery and bordered by the Burhi Gandak River, the institute provides a peaceful and conducive learning environment.
