Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College & Hospital, Chamba, was established in 2016–17 by upgrading the Regional Hospital of District Chamba under a centrally sponsored scheme to meet the shortage of medical professionals in underserved districts. It admits 100 MBBS students in its first batch. The college is affiliated to Atal Medical & Research University, Mandi (earlier affiliated with Himachal Pradesh University) and is recognised by the National Medical Commission. The campus is located in the middle of Chamba town, and the college is currently running from the historic Akhand Chandi Palace, a building constructed by Raja Umedh Singh during 1747‑1765. The aim is to provide accessible medical education to economically weaker students in the region, and to improve healthcare services locally by utilising existing district hospital infrastructure.
