Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) is a distinguished Government medical college located in Shivamogga (Shimoga), Karnataka, strategically established in 2005-2007 to enhance medical education and provide specialized healthcare services to the Malnad region. Functioning as an autonomous institute under the Government of Karnataka, SIMS is affiliated with the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru, and is officially recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The institute is dedicated to producing competent, ethical, and community-oriented medical professionals through rigorous academic and clinical training. SIMS offers core programs including the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) undergraduate course, with an annual intake of 150 seats through the NEET-UG examination, as well as various MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MS (Master of Surgery) postgraduate programs across clinical and non-clinical specialties, with admissions based on NEET-PG scores. The college operates across a sprawling 25-acre campus equipped with modern infrastructure, which includes well-furnished lecture halls, advanced laboratories, departmental museums, and a central digital library. Central to its mission is the associated Government McGann Hospital, a tertiary care center with a capacity of over 950 beds, offering extensive clinical exposure through its numerous specialized departments, ICUs, and 24/7 emergency services, thus providing students with indispensable hands-on training and serving as a crucial healthcare provider for the surrounding districts.
