Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education & Research (SMIMER), located in Umarwada, Surat, is a well-established municipal medical college and teaching hospital under the Surat Municipal Corporation. Founded around the year 2000, it is affiliated with Veer Narmad South Gujarat University and recognised by the National Medical Commission. The college offers undergraduate medical education (MBBS) along with postgraduate degrees (MD/MS) and diploma courses across various specialties.  It has an attached hospital that provides a large amount of free care: it’s a 500‐bed hospital in the older reports, with 90% of beds free and 10% paid in special wards. 

The hospital handles a high patient load through its OPD, casualty/emergency services (24 hours), inpatient care, surgeries, etc., giving good clinical exposure to students. The campus is urban, covering about 25 acres. Infrastructure includes multiple academic blocks, lecture theaters, laboratories, a library, hostels, residential accommodation for staff, and modern hospital facilities.
