University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University is a premier institute of pharmaceutical education and research assigned NIRF Rank 2 in the country. The institute set up in the pre-independent India, at Lahore, in 1944 has a prestigious and long history. The institute hosted Pharmaceutical Sciences Oration by a Nobel Laureate, Prof. Ben Feringa and other mega events including global alumni meet to commemorate its Platinum Jubilee Year in 2019.
Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) approved B. Pharmacy (4 year) program and M. Pharmacy courses in 6 disciplines: Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, and Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance are offered at UIPS. The doctoral (Ph.D.) degree is offered in all emerging areas of pharmaceutical sciences. Currently, 227 B. Pharm., 140 M. Pharm., > 50 Ph.D are registered at UIPS.

Stanford University, USA, listed 8 faculty of UIPS among the top 2% scientists across the globe in the field of Pharmacy & Pharmacology. The faculty has been honoured with prestigious awards like Amrut Mody Research Foundation Award, Ranbaxy Research Award, Lifetime achievement awards, UNIDO Scientific Adviser, DBT Technology award, OPPI awards, BRICS Technology award, Best Teacher Awards, US-Fullbright fellowship, Commonwealth & BOYSCAST fellowships to name a few. Professor Emeritus of UIPS, Late Professor Harkishan Singh, an iconic figure and a pharmacy legend, was bestowed with Padma Shri, in 2017.
